Real Salt Lake manager Jeff Cassar has said the imposing figure and power of Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi will always be a big threat to opposing defences.

He said Adi brings more than focus to the field of play after the target man scored in a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake at the weekend.

“He’s very physical and he puts himself in good positions,” Cassar said.

“It was more about positioning (on Adi’s goal) rather than them breaking us down.”

Adi said he was lucky to net his 14th goal of the season for champions Portland Timbers in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

“I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time,” said Adi, who converted after a shot by Darlington Nagbe deflected off of Chris Schuler.

“Sometimes in front of goal, you have to be very composed.I took my time just to see where the goalkeeper was standing and just kicked it in.”

In three meetings between Portland and Real Salt Lake this year, Adi has scored four goals and has now netted a total of seven goals against the club.
