Former Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has been unveiled as the new head coach of Indian Super League club Odisha FC. He has signed a two year deal.

Established on 16 July 2014 as Delhi Dynamos FC, the team was renamed after relocating to Odisha last year.

Baxter has been without a job since vacating his position as head coach of the South African national team, following defeat to Nigeria in the quarterfinal stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of nations.

The 66-year-old started his coaching career in Sweden and is now set to manage his 12th different club. Baxter has also worked at clubs in Japan, Norway, Portugal, Turkey and South Africa while he also previously coached the England U19’s and Finland national team.

Baxter is most fondly remembered in South Africa for his time at Kaizer Chiefs where he helped the club to two top-flight league titles.

Dr. Anil Sharma (Odisha founder & CEO, GMS) said as quoted by the club’s official twitter page: “I am delighted to welcome Coach Stuart Baxter to Odisha FC! We conducted an extensive global search for a coach that matched our vision for the next phase of OFC.”
