Morocco international Achraf Hakimi says he wants to be like Brazilian star Marcelo and he also revealed his favourite position.

The full-back recently completed his big move to Italian giants Inter Milan from Spanish football heavyweights Real Madrid.

The transfer came after the 21-year-old impressed while on loan at German side Borussia Dortmund during the 2019/20 season.

Hakimi was nurtured in the Madrid academy and he played with fellow full-back Marcelo in the first team.

“It was a dream for me to play alongside him, like it was when I signed for Real Madrid. I signed when I was young; I didn’t believe it when they called me,” Hakimi told BBC Sport.

“As a young player, I looked up to Marcelo because he plays in the same position as me. He laughs all the time too; when he plays, he enjoys it. I want to be like him.”

Hakimi indicated that his best position is right-back, but sometimes he feels like he can play as a striker.

“I think I like the right-back role – but I like to go on the attack all the time,” he added.

“I like to play as a winger too, and sometimes I feel as if I want to play as a striker. But I think right-back is good.”

Hakimi played 54 Bundesliga games for Dortmund and scored seven goals and also registered 14 assists in the process.
