Senegal right-back Moussa Wague says representing the Teranga Lions at the 2018 World Cup is a dream come true.

The 19-year-old, who plays his club football in the Belgian First Division A with KAS Eupen, made history last Sunday when his goal in the 2-2 draw with Japan made him the youngest African goal-scorer in World Cup history.

He eclipsed the mark set by Ghana’s Haminu Draman when he scored as a 20-year-old in the 2006 World Cup against the USA.

“Frankly, it was a huge pleasure for me to score my first goal in the World Cup and for my country,” Wague is quoted by Le Quotidien.

“First of all, I thought of my two parents who are really very happy for me and for all the Senegalese people.

“Already taking part in a World Cup by being so young is a dream for me. And besides, to be truthful, it’s really huge… I am having a dream.”

Senegal teammate Alfred Ndiaye has encouraged Wague to keep working hard and fully realise his talent.

“I am very happy for him,” said the defensive midfielder. “He is not even 20 years old and he scores in a World Cup! It is a very good thing for him.

“He is hard-working player. He deserves what happens to him. He must continue like this [working hard].

“It is only at the beginning of his career. I hope he can go very far.”

Senegal will look to clinch a place in the last 16 of the World Cup when they play their final Group H match against Colombia this afternoon.
