The battle for promotion to the Nigeria premier league has gone down to the wire with Gombe United, Dreams FC, Mighty Jets and Katsina United all in line to move up today.

Famous Mighty Jets of Jos, once upon a time one of the country’s top clubs, top Division A1 with 24 points from 13 matches, a point ahead of Katsina United.

Jets will be away to relegation-threatened Jigawa Golden Stars in Dutse, while Katsina are home to Kogi United, who are safe from demotion having recorded 18 points.

Kaduna United, on 20 points, have already missed out on promotion and play away at bottom club FC Yarmalight.

It is also another straight fight in Division A2 between Gombe United and Dreams International, who are owned by former Lobi Stars top shot Dominic Iorfa.

Gombe top the table on 25 points, a point ahead of rivals Dreams.

However, the leaders are away to relegated Supreme Court of Abuja, while Dreams will be on the road against FC Zamfara, who have secured their safety in the second-tier NNL.

Kwara United have missed out on a prompt return to the top flight as they are third on 20 points, while their opponents today in Ilorin FC Taraba look set to play in the amateur league next year when last season they featured in the NPFL.

Remo Stars of Ijebu-Ode have already won promotion from Division B1 as they have an unassailable 27 points, six points clear of closest rivals Delta Force.

Their final game at home against Unicem Rovers will therefore be a mere formality.

COD of Lagos and Akwa Starlets are deep in the relegation zone.

Matches in B2 have been suspended until all the protests in that division have been treated, officials disclosed.
