Alhaji Grusah, the bankroller of King Faisal, says that Ashanti Gold and Asante Kotoko will fail Ghana in next season’s CAF club competitions.

The Ghana Football Association recently declared an end to the suspended 2019-20 football season. No club was relegated from the top-tier Premier League, but Kotoko were selected to represent the country in the CAF Champions League and Ashanti Gold in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Those teams played in the respective competitions in 2019-20 but failed to make much of an impact: Asante fell at the first hurdle in the Champions League, losing 4-3 on aggregate to Nigeria’s Kano Pillars, while AshGold were put out of the Confed Cup by Morocco’s RS Berkane before the playoff round.

Grusah believes that the two teams are highly unlikely to perform any better in 2020-21: “Allow them to go and disgrace themselves,” he told Ashh FM, as quoted by Football Ghana.

“They represented the country during the era of the Normalization Committee but brought nothing better but shame to the country because of their shambolic performances.”

He added, “No one can seize them from participating once they have their money but they should be mindful, especially with their gate proceeds, some management members capitalise on that to dupe the club.”

Grusah admits that Ghana’s slots in the competitions should not go to waste, but reckons it will be a while before teams can properly compete in the continent.

“Nonetheless,I think we cannot waste our slot, hence they can keep on trying. It may be better for them someday”, he concluded.
