Manchester United held talks with the agents of Adrien Rabiot before the midfielder agreed a new contract with Juventus, talkSPORT understands.

United have held an interest in the France international for some time and appeared ready to move for the player who was approaching the end of his existing deal.

The Red Devils were interested in acquiring Rabiot last summer but refused to bow down to his wage demands.

Instead, boss Erik ten Hag opted to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid and later added Marcel Sabitzer on a short-term loan deal from Bayern Munich.

Rabiot went on to produce arguably the form of his career so far in helping Juventus reach the last four of the Europa League.

However, the Old Lady missed out on Champions League football after being deducted ten points for alleged financial irregularities and transfer dealings that saw the price of players inflated.

A move to United would have handed Rabiot the opportunity to once again play in the top tier of European football but his decision to remain in Turin could see him miss out on Europe altogether next season.

Rabiot is no stranger to English football after having spent a short stint of his youth career at Manchester City.

The midfielder then returned to France and broke through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain where he made 150 appearances.

He left the French capital on a free transfer in 2019 and made the switch to Serie A with Juventus and now looks set to continue his adventure in Turin.
