Kiatisuk dedicates AFF Suzuki Cup trophy to late king

Thailand national team manager Kiatisuk dedicated the AFF Suzuki Cup trophy to the late king Bhumibol Adulyadej, as well as the newly-crowned Maha Vajiralongkorn following a title-clinching 2-0 victory over Indonesia in Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium on Saturday night.

A double from Siroch Chatthong was enough to seal the 3-2 aggregate win, moving Thailand ahead of Singapore with a historic fifth AFF title.

“Today, the players showed that they were determined to win. We dedicate this trophy to the Thai people and our kings. I believe the team will get better,” Kiatisuk told reporters.

“The players felt a lot of pressure because we are the defending champions playing at home. Indonesia are a good team this year, they became stronger with each game and they caused us a lot of problems,” he added.

Meanwhile, Indonesia head coach Alfred Riedl indicated he would like to continue his job to oversee the Garuda’s development.

“Congratulations to Thailand on winning the trophy. We are happy that we could make it into the final. In the first half, we tried to attack them, but they scored quite a lucky goal, and when it became 2-0 we couldn’t do anything about it,” the Austrian coach said.

“I can’t answer any questions on my future, whether I would stay or not. But I want to do this job, oversee Indonesia’s development, and come up against Thailand again in the future.”
