Indonesia coach Riedl rues missed chances in Philippines clash

Indonesia manager Alfred Riedl said his team was unfortunate not to win after a thrilling 2-2 draw with co-hosts Philippines.

After Misagh Bahadoran had canceled out Fachrudin Aryanto’s opener in the first half, the Indonesians looked like they were heading for their first victory in the tournament when Boaz Solossa restored the lead for them in the 68th minute.

However, with a few minutes left on the clock, Phil Younghusband curled a brilliant free-kick into the net to earn his side a precious point, leaving the Garuda with just one point after two matches.

“We had many good chances, but we couldn’t score them. We were unlucky, but football is like this”, the Austrian coach rued his team missed chances in the match.

“We try to play offensive football, but sometimes it’s not working really well for us”, he lamented.

Meanwhile, Philippines head coach Thomas Dooley was satisfied with his team’s performance. He was also confident that his players could secure a win against defending champions Thailand to qualify for the semi-final.

“This is a perfect exercise for the match against Thailand. We have to do something against them. I think the team is ready for next game”, the American manager said.
