Zaw Min Tun’s brace and a goal from Aung Thu secured a 3-1 victory over as the hosts clinched their first three points in the AFF Suzuki Cup on Wednesday night.

A blunder from goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Phyo in the 15th minute to come out of his line allowing Cambodia to take the lead through Sos Suhana’s effort after receiving a decent pass from Chan Vathanaka.

Myanmar nearly came up with an instant reply via Aung Thu a moment later, but the youngster’s shot went wide when It seemed the slightest of touches would have taken it past Sou Yaty and into the net.

The hosts pushed hard for an equaliser and finally evened up the score in the 35th minute when Zaw Min Tun, who broke the off-side trap, guided in Nanda Kyaw’s free kick with his spine.

Five minutes before the break, Myanmar overturned the score and it was complete by Zaw Min Tun’s thumping header, who also marked his second goal in this game.

In the early second-half, Kaung Sett Naing almost scored the third goal for Myanmar but Sou Yaty brilliantly tipped the 23-year-old close-range strike.

The packed Thuwunna Stadium in the 56th minute, chanting Aung Thu’s name as the Yadarnabon starlet thumped an assured left-footed finish past Sou Yaty from a tight angle to make the score 3-1.

Myanmar domination continued into the final third of the game and had several opportunities to extend their lead but they couldn’t take them all. The score 3-1 remains until the final whistle.

The victory moves Myanmar to second place in Group B ahead of their do-or-die clash against Malaysia on Saturday, while Cambodia will also need a win over Vietnam to finish third in the group stage.
