Following the weekend’s conclusion of group play in the , here is Football Channel Asia’s selections for our Best XI of Group B:

AFF SUZUKI CUP GROUP B (3-5-2)

GK: Tran Nguyen Manh (Vietnam)

His consistent performances and ability to organise his defenders overcame their weaknesses at the back; despite their regular mistakes Vietnam conceded just two goals over three matches.

DF Zaw Min Tun (Myanmar)

Improved significantly after the first match to become one of the best defenders in the group, scoring twice in Myanmar’s win over Cambodia and delivering a standout performance against Malaysia.

DF Ronny Harun (Malaysia)

Proved himself to be incredibly adept at reading the match in front of him, deterring opposing strikers and holding Vietnam and Myanmar’s fierce attack at bay until late. One of the few bright spots in a disappointing Malaysia squad.

DF (Vietnam)

A superb defender whose pass distribution from the left flank contributed to many of Vietnam’s attacks. Will be called upon to keep pressure off goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh against stronger opposition in the knockout stage.

MF (Myanmar)

While Htan doesn’t have the height for a striker, he was incredibly dangerous on the right flank and played well on both sides of the ball. His game-winner against Malaysia will go down in his country’s football history.

FW (Vietnam)

The second-string attacker is arguably the revelation of the tournament, coming off the bench to assist the game-winner against Myanmar before scoring it himself in the 80th minute against Malaysia. Part of a fearsome combo alongside teammate Le Cong Vinh.

MF Luong Xuan Truong (Vietnam)

The Incheon United midfielder expertly guided his teammates with his consistent passing and crosses, taking part in all three of Vietnam’s goals in their wins against Myanmar and Malaysia.

MF (Myanmar)

The heart and soul of the Myanmar attack provided ample proof of his strength, skill, and determination at just 20 years old. Hounded the Malaysian defence over 90 minutes but will regret failing to convert his penalty kick.

MF Mo Ko Tun (Myanmar)

The 21-year-old midfielder played a big role in supporting his team’s attack, setting up Aung Thu’s equaliser in the opening match against Vietnam.

 

FW Le Cong Vinh (Vietnam)

The veteran still has it all: a killer instinct, perfect finishing, and fine coordination with his teammates. His two goals in the group stage put his senior international total at 51, and he’ll be favoured to add to that total against Indonesia this weekend.

FW (Cambodia)

Cambodia’s rising star demonstrated his talent with his methodical attacks, scoring two goals and earning one assist. Vathanka’s performance could turn heads in Japan where he recently trained with J3 League side Fujieda MYFC.

COACH Gerd Zeise (Myanmar)

After facing criticism ahead of the tournament for the team’s lack of goal-scoring, Zeise rallied his players to a spirited effort in their loss against Vietnam before turning their fortunes around with two big wins against Cambodia and Malaysia for their first semifinal appearance in 10 years.
