PSG's Timothy Weah extends contract, joins Celtic on season loan – source

Paris Saint-Germain forward Timothy Weah has extended his contract until 2021 before joining Celtic on loan for the rest of the season, a source told ESPN FC.

The United States international has struggled for minutes this season since the arrival of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as backup to Edinson Cavani — and late loan offers last summer were rebuffed by PSG who have since changed their tune.

Weah, 18, has put pen to paper on an additional one-year deal at Parc des Princes and has since cleared out his dressing room locker ahead of his move to Celtic until the end of the campaign, which the source indicated should be made official in the coming days.

The son of Ballon d’Or winner George *Weah*, who scored his first senior goal for the *U.S.* against Bolivia *in* May and netted his first competitive goals *for* PSG *in* August, will initially join Celtic on loan for six months.

Should Weah impress at Celtic Park and show signs of development, the source said that he will likely remain there for the entirety of next season.

PSG and Celtic are on good terms after Odsonne Edouard joined the Scottish champions permanently in the summer following a successful loan spell.

In the event that Weah’s move does not work out as hoped, the source suggested that he could return to PSG and then be loaned out to a Ligue 1 side. There are no shortage of suitors in France and a move domestically was the player’s preference before Celtic registered an interest.

Meanwhile, PSG’s attempts to reinforce this winter have been thwarted after Zenit Saint Petersburg rejected an offer for midfielder Leandro Paredes last week. The Argentina international is keen to leave the Russian outfit and has been linked with a return to Boca Juniors.

“Zenit have invested a lot of money in me and have no intention of selling me,” Paredes told La Red. “They have just rejected an offer from PSG for me and it is not easy for me to return to Boca either.”

Elsewhere, Thomas Tuchel’s attacking options could be boosted by the return of Jese Rodriguez to senior contention after the Spaniard’s remarkable recent turnaround.

Jese, who has spent time on loan with Las Palmas and Stoke City since his ill-fated switch from Real Madrid back in 2016 has won Tuchel over with his attitude since he was challenged to clean up his act.

According to the source, PSG remain keen to sell him if they can, but a shortage of serious suitors has led Tuchel to consider utilising him as an impact substitute in a bid to attract interest while also offering the 25-year-old a chance to salvage his career in France.

A minor knock prevented Jese from being involved against Pontivy in the Coupe de France, but he could make a return to action later this month if a transfer does not materialise.
