English Premier League: Jamie Vardy (90’+2) Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City

Manchester United striker James Wilson has joined Aberdeen on a season-long loan in a move that is likely to mean the end of his career at Old Trafford.

Wilson, 22, who has scored four goals in 20 senior appearances for United, has been given no indication he has a first-team future under Jose Mourinho and was overlooked for the summer tour of the United States.

Mourinho included a number of teenagers in his squad, including 16-year-old striker Mason Greenwood, but there was no place for Wilson, who has a year left on his contract while United also hold an option to extend it by an additional 12 months.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that the club are unlikely to trigger the clause in his £30,000-a-week deal and he is now set to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Wilson burst into the first-team with two goals on his debut against Hull City in 2014 after being promoted by caretaker manager Ryan Giggs following David Moyes’ dismissal.

The former England Under-21 international, who scored regularly for United’s U23s last season, has had loan spells at Brighton and Derby and scored once in two games during a short spell at Sheffield United last term.
