Liam Polworth’s last-gasp strike rescued a point for Inverness against Hamilton as a 1-1 draw stretched the visitors’ unbeaten run to five games in the Ladbrokes Premiership.
Hamilton took the lead for the seventh time this season as Alex D’Acol struck in the 18th minute.
But regardless of that statistic, Martin Canning’s men have only won once in the league this season after Polworth’s late surge and strike left Hamilton stunned.
Hamilton made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 with St Johnstone last Sunday, as Scott McMann and Louis Longridge started, with Massimo Donati and Eamonn Brophy bowing out due to injury.
Former Motherwell midfielder Iain Vigurs came in for Jake Mulraney as the only change for Inverness after their 3-1 win over Dundee last weekend.
Hamilton took the lead against the run of play. Grant Gillespie’s cross from the right was met by Ali Crawford and Owain Fon Williams made a terrific save, but he could do nothing to stop D’Acol smashing the ball into the net for his third goal of the season.
Inverness had made a lively start and after three minutes Lonsana Doumbouya tried a cheeky lob from the right touchline that had Remi Matthews scrambling, but the on-loan Norwich keeper was able to claw it over.
Brad McKay met Greg Tansey’s corner with a powerful header, but Longridge cleared off the line for Hamilton.
Liam Polworth had a powerful shot taken by Matthews soon afterwards, but it was straight at the goalkeeper.
The goal very visibly gave Hamilton a real lift though and after 28 minutes Crawford’s corner on the right was cleared only as far as Dougie Imrie. He played the ball back out to Crawford, and his first-time cross was headed over by defender Georgios Sarris, who got under the ball.
Two minutes later a superb move by Hamilton ended with Fon Williams desperately clawing a cheeky chip by Crawford over the bar.
A clumsy challenge by Gillespie on Polworth gave Inverness a free-kick just outside the box, but Vigurs fired just over.
Inverness had another chance three minutes later when a corner from the right caused problems inside the Hamilton box, but Gary Warren’s scissor-kick attempt was saved at the back post by Matthews.
Inverness hit Hamilton quickly in the second half and Carl Tremarco’s long throw from the left was headed on by Ross Draper, but Matthews clawed it over.
Hamilton’s Greg Docherty then sent an effort just wide from long distance.
Inverness had another great chance after 75 minutes when Polworth’s cross from the left was allowed to reach McKay at the back post, but he blasted over with the goal gaping.
Home goalkeeper Matthews was replaced by understudy Robbie Thomson late on. Thomson was called into action immediately to punch Draper’s header away from the top left corner from Mulraney’s free-kick after 81 minutes.
The points were beginning to look safe, but three minutes into stoppage time Polworth seized possession, ran inside and smashed a low shot into the bottom left corner to snatch a point.
