Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will be deprived of the services of French World Cup winner Corentin Tolisso and Brazilian full-back Rafinha over the coming months after the duo sustained serious injuries against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Tolisso, who scored the equaliser for Bayern in the 10th minute of a 3-1 victory for Niko Kovac‘s charges, went to ground shortly before half-time following a routine tussle in midfield with Leverkusen’s Kevin Volland and was replaced by James Rodriguez after limping off the field.

A comprehensive medical examination on Saturday evening revealed that the 24-year-old sustained cruciate ligament and meniscus damage to his right knee. He will undergo surgery on Sunday and will miss the next few months of the season.

Rafinha will likewise miss a lengthy period of the campaign after suffering ligament damage to his left ankle following a tackle by Karim Bellarabi, who was sent off for the foul in the 83rd minute.

They join Kingsley Coman as long-term absentees, the French winger having injured his left ankle in the 3-1 win over Hoffenheim in the 2018/19 season opener on Matchday 1.
