Since last season, the calendar’s structure has been modernised to best take into account sporting concerns and the wishes of the clubs and the broadcasters as well as organisational and climatic constraints.

Like last season, the calendar will be asymmetrical, with each club having four clusters of successive matches either home or away. In other words, on four occasion during the season, each club will play at home or hit the road two weeks in a row.

The asymmetrical structure maintains balance in sporting terms because each club will play nine or ten matches at home and nine or ten matches away in each half of the season. No club will play more than three away games in any run of five matches. Despite its asymmetry, the calendar will maintain, in most cases, a gap of at least ten matches between the initial and reverse fixtures between two clubs.
