We are already four games into the 2019/20 Premier League season and there has been plenty of drama and talking points.

Manchester City and Liverpool continue to be on a different level, VAR ruling out last minute winners and Manchester United doing Manchester United things.

You will now, though, have to survive for a fortnight without the Premier League because of the international break.

Teemu Pukki has scored five goals this season

Here at talkSPORT.com, we have taken a look at what we are already loving about this season.

1. Barnes and Pukki making an early claim for Golden Boot

Burnley’s Ashley Barnes and Norwich’s Teemu Pukki are surprise early contenders to be this season’s top goalscorer in the Premier League.

The usual names are already setting the early pace with Sergio Aguero currently leading the way with six goals.

His Manchester City team-mate Raheem Sterling has five while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah all have three.

There were doubts that Pukki could replicate his 29 Championship goals last season to the Premier League but he is already proving people wrong.

He has five goals in his first four games and will be pivotal in Norwich’s attempts to retain their place in the top flight.

The 29-year-old has scored all but one of their goals already but the Canaries have won just once so far.

Ashley Barnes appears to be getting better with every season he plays in the Premier League.

Last season, he netted 12 times and is already on course to be hitting double figures again. Four goals in his four games is a fantastic return.

2. Chelsea’s very English feel

Tammy Abraham should not be forgotten from the early goalscoring pacesetters and he is part of an English contingent at Chelsea that looks promising.

The striker has four goals in his first four games and is starting to find his feet in the top division.

In his loan spell with Swansea in the 2017/18 season, he managed to find the net just five times.

Mason Mount has also started the season strongly and his performances have earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England side while Ross Barkley looks to be enjoying playing under Frank Lampard.

There are also plenty young English talents who are working their way back to full fitness and could come back at some point this season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both had Achilles injuries while Reece James is coming back from an ankle injury but is set to replace Cesar Azpilicueta when he returns.

3. Sheffield United proving people wrong

The Blades were some pundits tips for relegation this season but they are already proving they will cause some problems for big teams.

There were question marks over whether Chris Wilder’s unique style of play would translate to the Premier League and also if players like Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick could cut it at the top level.

Five points from their first four games, the same as Manchester United and Tottenham, suggests they have the potential to survive.

They drew 2-2 with Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to prove they should not be taken lightly.

4. Sead Kolasinac fighting baddies

In perhaps one of the most bizarre, and terrifying, incidents, Sead Kolasinac showed why you should not mess with him.

Video footage emerged to show the Arsenal defender fight off knife-wielding muggers in north London who tried to carjack him and Mesut Ozil.

Heavyweight boxing champion Deontay Wilder was even impressed with some of the skills he showed.

However, it got them caught up in the middle of a gang feud and both men were under 24-hour surveillance.

Both have now returned back to the Arsenal team following the ordeal with the Gunners taking seven points from their first four games.

5. Top six games have not disappointed

Matches between the ‘top six’ have so far lived up to their billing and been anything but dull encounters.

Manchester United’s opening day 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea was a sign of things to come.

City’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham was a thrilling match that saw a last-minute Gabriel Jesus winner chalked off by VAR because of a handball in the build-up.

Liverpool showed their dominance over Arsenal with a 3-1 win while Sunday’s north London derby ended in a 2-2 draw.

With an average of four goals a game, let’s hope that continues throughout the season.

6. Man City and Liverpool’s goalscoring

Both sides were comfortably the Premier League’s top scorers last season with City finding the net 95 times while Liverpool scored 89.

They have carried on in a similar fashion this campaign with Guardiola’s side scoring 14 while Klopp’s team have 12 in just four games.

Man United and Tottenham are the next closest teams with seven.

7. Man United’s unpredictability

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are in a state of transition this season and they are already playing like one.

Things started well with a 4-0 opening day win against Chelsea but they lost their next home game against Crystal Palace.

There are plenty of young players who will get their chance this season, especially with Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku leaving.

United will be pretty unpredictable this season and could be fun to watch.

8. Newly-promoted sides causing problems for the top six

You already get the feeling Norwich, Aston Villa and Sheffield United will punch above their weight this season.

Chelsea have already found this to their cost with their draw against the Blades while they scraped through 3-2 against Norwich.

Norwich have a tough test in their next league clash as they play Man City after the international break.

9. North London derby lived up to expectations

The north London derby has been a cracking fixture over the last few seasons and this early season encounter did not disappoint.

Spurs’ 2-0 lead was clawed back by the Gunners who then could, and should, have gone on to win.

Let’s hope the reverse fixture, and other local derbies, will have the same level of entertainment.
