Destiny Udogie has dealt Tottenham’s top four hopes a potential major blow after announcing his season is over through injury.

The 21-year-old has become a fan favourite in north London in his opening season, where he has established himself as one of the best Premier League left-backs.

He has even been named in talkSPORT presenter Mark Goldbridge’s Team of the Season having chipped in with two goals and three assists in 28 top-flight matches.

Such has been his impressive form, he was rewarded with a new long-term contract at Tottenham until 2030.

But he will play no part in Spurs’ remaining six games, having taken to Instagram to state injury has brought a premature end to his campaign.

Sharing multiple pictures of himself on a hospital bed, the Italy international said: “The plans of the heart belong to man.

“But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

“An injury brings my season to an early end.

“It doesn’t take away from how grateful I am to every person that has supported me this year.”

Italy will now be sweating over his fitness as they prepare to defend their European Championship in Germany this summer.

But crucially, Ange Postecoglou will have to make changes to his backline as Spurs look to secure Champions League football.

Tottenham currently sit three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, but do have a game in hand over the Midlands outfit.

The club’s next outing is a north London derby against Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

They then face tough away trips to Chelsea and Liverpool, while they still have to face Manchester City.
