Nottingham Forest have released a stunning statement hitting out at the officiating during the club’s 2-0 defeat to Everton on Sunday.

The ‘Tricky Trees’ dramatically accused the PGMOL of deploying a Luton Town fan to work VAR during their six-pointer showdown at Goodison Park.

Forest saw fellow Premier League strugglers Everton extend their gap in 16th to four points following goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil.

However, the game could have been turned on its head had Ashley Young been punished for any of the numerous penalty appeals levelled against him during the match.

Young first survived a trip on Giovanni Reyna inside the box before he similarly avoided conceding a spot-kick for handball.

In a statement, Forest said: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

“NFFC will now consider its options.”

Forest’s outspoken statement comes after the club hired former Premier League official Mark Clattenburg as their referees’ analyst.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been active in their complaints over VAR and officials’ decisions throughout the season.
