Both sides are unbeaten in pre-season so far as they look to improve on contrasting campaigns.

The Magpies finished fourth and secured Champions League football for the first time in 20 years, while Chelsea ended the Premier League campaign 12th.

But given Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino like to entertain, this should be an exciting occasion played in the scorching heat in Atlanta.

Newcastle vs Chelsea: Team news

The Magpies will be without Karl Darlow and Jamal Lewis as the pair close in on moves to Leeds and Watford, respectively.

Nick Pope and Joe Willock are both unlikely to feature due to injuries suffered at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

But Harvey Barnes could make his first start after joining from Leicester in a £38million deal.

Meanwhile, the Blues are without Wesley Fofana after he suffered another ACL injury.

Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja were left out of the squad for the USA trip and Reece James is a doubt due to illness.

Newcastle vs Chelsea: What has been said?

Chelsea boss Pochettino speaking about the emergence of Newcastle: “Premier League is the Big 20. Every team in the Premier League is strong, it is very competitive.

“Now it’s changed a little bit the perception. It’s true in the past there were different teams there, but this is the most competitive team in the world.

“I think it’s unfair now to say top six, top seven, and which teams you put there. In the table last season, Chelsea were out of the top six. It’s a really competitive league and now I think we have to stop talking about the top four, six or seven.”
