Manchester United have reportedly told Harry Kane to hand in a transfer request to force through a summer switch to Old Trafford.

United have been tracking Kane’s contract situation at Tottenham that has just over 12 months to run.

Spurs have made clear their intention not to sell the striker, more so to a Premier League rival.

But it appears the Red Devils – who are in dire need of a No.9 – are becoming frustrated with their lack of progress on Kane.

According to The Sun, Manchester United bosses are ready to walk away from the transfer due to difficulties in negotiating with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

However, in a last-gasp attempt to land the England skipper, United have told Kane to hand in a transfer request or a strongly worded statement, informing Spurs of his desire to move to Old Trafford.

United value the 29-year-old at £80million, falling some way short of Spurs’ valuation of £100m for their prized asset.

The report suggests Kane is desperate to move to Old Trafford but United aren’t willing to let the transfer drag on throughout the summer.

Boss Erik ten Hag may have to turn to one of his other transfer options this summer in Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojland.

The Denmark international scored ten goals in 34 appearances for the Serie A side last season and could snap up the boyhood Manchester United fan for £52m.

United remain in the mix for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen who fired 26 goals to help the Neapolitans claim first Serie A title in 33 years.

The Nigerian has become one of the hottest properties in football but will set suitors back around £150m.

Negotiations for the 24-year-old could prove even more difficult than Daniel Levy with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis unlikely to offer United or other interested party any favours.

He did, however, leave the door open to selling Osimhen if a mammoth bid was proposed to him.

“If an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, we would consider it,” he said.
