Jamie Carragher has told Nottingham Forest to ‘show class’ following their astonishing statement on social media.

Forest have accused the PGMOL of deploying a Luton Town fan in Stuart Attwell in the VAR booth for their relegation six-pointer with Everton on Sunday, claiming that they even made their concerns of bias clear before the match.

The FA have since confirmed that they will investigate Forest’s statement as it calls into question the integrity of the game.

As well as losing the match 2-0, Forest were aggrieved after Ashley Young brought down Gio Reyna and Callum Hudson-Odoi during the match, as well as appearing to get away with a handball in the first half – none of which resulted in a penalty.

A statement read: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

“NFFC will now consider its options.”

That statement was slated by Carragher on Sky Sports, with the ex-Liverpool man saying: “It tells you where we are with the Premier League and the clubs.

“Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrific day today, awful, and they should be criticised for that.

“It could have real implications for Nottingham Forest – I get the frustration.

“That, which I’ve just read of social media, that’s like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing from Nottingham Forest.

“I get the frustration, but that rubbish about the VAR being a Luton fan, you can’t get involved in that.

“You’ve got to show a little bit of class if you’re a football club and I get the frustration. The officials have had an awful day, terrible, but you can’t get involved in that. That’s nonsense!”

Forest legend Stan Collymore echoed those sentiments, writing on social media: “We’ve now entered the stage where official club media channels are tweeting like fan channels.

“We have chairmen, secretaries and directors for official complaints. Grand clubs emoting and shooting from the hip is self sabotaging and helps no meritorious argument. Sorry, it’s the truth.”
