Craig Brown has been hailed as a ‘special’ and ‘delightful’ man by Jim White following the ex-Scotland manager’s passing at the age of 82.

talkSPORT host White said on the Hawksbee and Jacobs show: “It’s very sad news. I’ve known him for many years – a delightful man.

“A lovely, lovely fella, nothing ever seemed to get Craig down, he would always have time for you, he had a smile on his face all the time.

“He was so open, so amenable to any media request that you wanted to make, he would try to be so helpful, give you some information – maybe about a team he was picking.”

White added: “Nothing seemed to get him down, and he loved life, he loved his job, he loved football and he was well respected, very well respected, both by the media and by players and fans.

“So this is a sad loss I must admit, I’m extremely saddened to hear about this. He loved the game and he loved the personalities that the game threw up and was happy to work with any of them.

“At any time of the day or night if you asked Craig, ‘can you join me for such and such occasion? It’s happening two or three away from now’, then Craig would try his upmost to be there.”

He finished up his tribute by stating: “Craig Brown was a special man, he’s had a great and very much fulfilled life.”
