Chelsea weakness highlighted again as they complete unwanted record for first time since 2003
Chelsea must find a clinical edge if they’re to challenge for honours once again following their FA Cup semi-final defeat.
That’s the view of ex-Blues striker Tony Cascarino, who has had his say on the club’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.
That defeat means that Chelsea have failed to win silverware for two successive seasons, the first time that this has happened to the west Londoners since 2003.
Chelsea currently languish in ninth spot in the Premier League, but boast a genuine chance of qualifying for Europe as they sit three points off the top six.
But according to Cascarino, Mauricio Pochettino‘s side must address their striking woes if they’re to challenge for trophies next term.
Speaking on the Weekend Sports Breakfast, Cascarino said: “Chelsea had enough chances to win the game against Man City.
“[Nicolas] Jackson has got a lot to learn. He’s 22-years-old and has to be careful.
“Will he one day be a more complete finisher? He has to be clinical because Chelsea won’t win games.
“Chelsea’s success when they had [Diego] Costa leading the line and [Eden] Hazard when he was clinical.
“They had [Didier] Drogba before and [Frank] Lampard – if you go through their successes it was because they had clinical players in their team who made the difference.
“This team hasn’t got a clinical finisher. I would argue that lots of teams have that problem.
“But Chelsea certainly have it because they’ve spent a hell of a lot of money finding guys that have done things that players have done before when winning trophies.”
Despite Jackson’s struggles in his first season with Chelsea, the striker has still managed 13 goals in all competitions.
With five assists as well, the Senegalese star will be hoping to kick on next term and help the club to challenge for honours.
