Arsenal will look to return to winning ways when they face European giants Barcelona in their pre-season tour of the USA this week.

The Gunners suffered a blow to their preparations for the new campaign after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

New signings Declan Rice and Kai Havertz started together in midfield for the first time but struggled against the Red Devils.

The defeat was Arsenal’s first of pre-season as they approach their final two matches before the Community Shield next month.

But they should be in much better shape than Barcelona, who were forced to cancel a friendly against Juventus last time out.

Arsenal vs Barcelona: Team news

Inter Milan-linked Folarin Balogun was left as an unused substitute against United but should be back involved here.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson both remain sidelined.

Barcelona’s game against Juventus was cancelled as several of Xavi’s squad were confirmed to be suffering from viral gastroenteritis.

It remains to be seen which stars are fit enough to feature, but former Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu will make his debut.

Arsenal vs Barcelona: What has been said?

Arteta has called for patience for fans after Rice and Havertz were quiet alongside captain Odegaard in the defeat to Man United.

“When they play 55 times together, it will be better, it will flow better, they will understand each other better and we will be more dominant”, said Arteta.

“Things take time to glide, and we have to respect that.

“But I saw a lot of positive things, things I really like much more than the game that we won although the result is very different.”

On Timber, Arteta added: “With Jurrien, [I am] really pleased with his performance and what we asked him to do. He’s adapting really quickly to the team. You can see the confidence and the determination he plays with.”
