Thierry Henry has been confirmed as the final player to take part in Vincent Kompany’s testimonial.

Manchester City are set to honour their former captain for his 10 years of service when he returns to the Etihad next Wednesday.

Vincent Kompany is a Manchester City legend

All profits made from ticket sales will be donated to Tackle4MCR, a charity set up by Kompany to help the homeless in Manchester.

And ticket sales could be boosted following the announcement that Henry will be playing for Kompany’s opponents on the day, Premier League All-Stars XI.

Henry knows the 33-year-old well after coaching him during his time with the Belgian national team. The Frenchman was part of Roberto Martinez’s coaching staff between 2016 and 2018.

Kompany won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups during his time at City, including a historic domestic treble last season.

Announcing his City departure in May, the Anderlecht player-manager said: “As overwhelming as it is, the time has come for me to go. And what a season to bow out.

“I feel nothing but gratefulness. I am grateful to all those who supported me on a special journey, at a very special club.

“I remember the first day, as clear as I see the last. I remember the boundless kindness I received from the people of Manchester.

“I will never forget how all Man City supporters remained loyal to me in good times and especially bad times. Against the odds you have always backed me and inspired me to never give up.”

It remains to be seen how big a part Kompany will play in his own testimonial after limping off with a hamstring injury while playing for Anderlecht last month.

The Belgium defender has endured a difficult start to life as Anderlecht player-manager, winning just one of his first six league games – and even passed on matchday responsibilities to assistant coach Simon Davies.

But Kompany is set to receive a hero’s welcome during his testimonial.
