“There’s unity here and it’s an enjoyable group to be around,” Curle told carlisleunited.co.uk.

“They’re striving for excellence and they demand the best from each other. We’re competitive and I still think there’s more to come.

“I back them to get us results. I know they’ll empty the tank to get something from games. They can adapt and try different approaches and that shows you’ve got good players who have bought in to what you’re trying to do.

“We have a good focus about the group at the moment and I need to see that because I want to be successful. I want to maximise everything at our disposal and I think the supporters can be very proud of what we’re trying to create.”

Their current undefeated streak at the start of a season is matched in the club’s history books only by the record set in 1989/90, when Clive Middlemass was the team’s manager in the old Division Four.
